Goals of the Sustonica Partnership

Jordi Marzal, the CEO of Rent Top Apartments, is a highly experienced vacation rental property manager with an impressive track record of over 20 years in the industry. In 2022, he noticed a significant shift in his clientele – luxury tourists visiting Barcelona were increasingly concerned about the sustainability practices of his company and the environmentally-friendly amenities offered in his apartments. This growing demand for eco-conscious accommodations sparked his curiosity, leading him on a quest for sustainable solutions in the hospitality sector.

As an investor in Sustonica, Jordi saw a natural opportunity to align his own company's values with the growing trend towards sustainability. Recognizing that implementing changes in his own inventory would not only appeal to eco-conscious travelers but also contribute to a greener future, he decided to take action.

Process of Validation
Step 1: Team Briefing
The reservation team received instructions on creating properties in the Sustonica dashboard. Bulk documentation for all properties was uploaded. The housekeeping team was briefed on conducting the photo tour, and specific housekeepers were assigned properties to validate.
Step 2: Guidebook Content & Procurement
Concurrently, the Rent Top Apartments team diligently worked on producing the guidebook content proposed by the Sustonica standard. Additionally, they began procuring eco-friendly cleaning products and recycled paper products to replace the conventional ones, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.
Step 3: Photo Tours
It was the housekeeping team of Rent Top Apartments that took care of doing the photo tour of each apartment in between check-ins. As the tours were submitted the first badges started to get issued.
Step 4: Changes to the Website
As the Sustonica validation badges were issued, the team ensured their prominent display as a watermark in the first photo of each property. The About Us page was also worked on to include sustainability as a pillar.

Learning curve!
I was in charge of procuring eco-friendly paper products and green cleaning products. Luckily our usual provider have them available, it was a question of changing the order. I am happy to have learned about this.

It's fast!
I did some photo tours myself together with housekeeping. At the beginning, the photo tours took a bit longer. We had to familiarise ourselves with the process. Now we got the hang of it and the tours take around 8 minutes per property.
